Support Groups – at the Family Life Center

The Family Life Center is a faith-based, non-denominational outreach ministry of Northminster Presbyterian Church that provides FREE support groups, classes and seminars. We are dedicated to promoting health, strong relationships, and providing support for life’s transitions through these offerings.

All Greater Cincinnati community members are welcome! We are located at the corner of Woodview and Compton Road, one block east off Winton Road, north of the Ronald Reagan (Cross County) Highway. Call 931-5777 for directions and map.

Boundaries with Kids…

…is for parents, whether single or married, who would like help in establishing healthy boundaries with their children and improving their parenting skills. Our six session group uses the book Boundaries with Kids by Henry Cloud and John Townsend. FREE child care is provided so parents can attend as a couple (recommended if married, but not required). Caregivers’ Group…

Meets monthly on the 1st Sunday, 3:30 – 5 PM (except July)
Who is a caregiver? You are a caregiver whether you devote as little as 5 minutes a week or as much as 24 hours a day to providing or supervising the care for a loved one who is disabled, frail, or elderly. It can be both physically and emotionally demanding! Meet others who share your experience to discuss topics like maintaining balance as a caregiver, solving caregiving problems, the guilt/stress of caregiving, and learning to care for yourself. Coping with Depression – Strategies that Work…

…has been designed for anyone who thinks they may have depression, who feels moderately depressed & family members who want to understand and support a person with depression. Creating Your Journey for the 2nd Half of Life…

You will be guided through five sessions that will help you to develop your personal travel plan, covering everything from financial planning to “Aging and Sage-ing” with stops in-between for planning your healthy life, downsizing and moving, and eliminating all of that excess “stuff” in the attic. Crohn’s Colitis Support Group…

Meets monthly on 3rd Monday, 7-8:30 PM (except January, July and December)
…is for patients with Crohn’s, Colitis, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and their families. Materials are provided by Crohn’s Colitis Foundation of America. Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University…

FPU is the most important step to changing your financial future. It is your Total Money Makeover Program. It takes the knowledge from God and turns it into real action in our lives through a step-by-step process taught by best-selling author and financial counselor Dave Ramsey. This is a life-changing program that empowers and teaches you how to make the right money decisions to achieve your financial goals and God’s plan for your life. The course includes practical lessons on eliminating debt, building wealth, giving like never before, and much, much more! You will learn: 1.) Step-by-Step Cash Flow Planning, 2.) Debt Snowball Plan Technique to Eliminating Debt, and 3.) How to Invest Wisely. Diabetic Support Group…

Meets on 2nd Friday of January, March, May, September & November, 1:30 – 3 PM
…provides an opportunity to meet with health professionals to keep up with the newest developments in the management of diabetes. The experience of group members contributes to the learning process. Divorce Support Group…

Seven week session begins Wednesday, April 11, 7-9 PM.
The divorce process leads to many strong feelings, including isolation, anger, depression and confusion. This group will help participants understand what they’re going through, get support from others in similar circumstances and give them tools for readjusting their life. Enhancing Marriages: building on your strengths

Six week session begins Wednesday, May 15, 7-9 PM
“Turn your stumbling blocks (issues) into stepping stones (strengths)!” Most all of us want a happy marriage, but when we enter the “messiness” of life we discover we do not have the skills and insights we need to make our marriage happy. Couples will learn in this group some specific things they can do to maintain and develop a great marriage. Everyday Spirituality…

Five week session begins Wednesday, July 25, 7-8:30 PM
Seeing and experiencing the sacred in our lives is the goal of this class; we will use DVD segments from the Spiritual Literacy Project to inspire our observations and discussions. This innovative series is organized around a new “Spiritual Alphabet” of spiritual qualities of mind and heart for practicing spirituality in everyday life. Finding Your Way through Loss…

Six week group begins Tuesday, March 7, 7-9 PM.
…brings together people who share the loss of a loved one, to get help and gain an understanding of the grieving process. New in 2011: we will use Dan Moseley’s book Lose, Love, Live as the framework for our discussions about the grief process. This is a fresh, encouraging and uplifting approach. Fourth Friday Single Mingle…

Meets monthly on 4th Friday, 7-10 PM
Join us on the fourth Friday for snacks and games starting at 7:00 P.M. Bring an appetizer, snack or dessert to share, your own drinks and a couple single friends, if you would like. Guided Meditation on Forgiveness…

Five week session begins Tuesday, May 29, 7-8:30 PM.
Letting go of old hurts is healing and helps you to strengthen yourself for the journey of life. This forgiveness class can assist you with a gentle process of guided meditation, based on the book Forgiveness, the Passionate Journey, by Flora Slosson Wuellner. Each person can read the book while taking the class, to achieve healing at your own pace. Helpful hand-outs accompany each session. Diane Kinsella leads this transformative group. Holistic Health & Wellness…

…teaches self-care techniques to manage the stress in your life. We’ll study a modified Tai Chi, Healing Touch, and assorted other practices that draw from the wisdom of today and of the ancients. How to Change Yourself and How to Change Others…


Are you frustrated with some aspect of our own or someone else’s behavior (boss, subordinate, friend, spouse, your person)? If so, come learn some practical, hands-on techniques for creating change. You’ll find this to be a fun, upbeat, and positive workshop for learning “magic” processes that will help you improve yourself and enhance your relationships. Job Search Support Group…

Eleven week session begins Monday, February 6, 1:30 – 3 PM.
…is for those coping with downsizing, or looking to return to the job market. Each week will feature a different speaker, each with a different area of expertise, about conducting a contemporary, successful job search. While there is a sequence to the program, you may join at any time. Participants are also provided with a StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment and individual coaching with Gallup Certified Strengths Performance Coach Diane Kinsella. Lose it for Life!…

Eleven week session begins Wednesday, March 7, 2012, 6:30 – 8 PM.
There are many variables that affect weight loss, and these variables are as different as we are. This workshop, based on the book by Steve Arterburn, will help you create and work a personal plan to maintain your weight-management lifestyle. You’ll learn to deal with the issues at the core of your spiritual and emotional life that have kept you from losing weight and keeping it off. More important than the weight, you’ll find transformation on the inside! Each participant receives his/her own FREE workbook and journal to keep track of progress. Preparing for Marriage…

Engaged couples complete an online assessment at the Prepare-Enrich website. They are then assigned a mentor couple to walk with them through the workbook and the exciting and emotional time of preparing for marriage. This is for those marrying for the first time as well as for those who have been married before. You do not need to be getting married at Northminster to participate. Using Strengths to “Right Fit” Your Career…

Three session group will meet bi-weekly two times in 2012:
Group #1 (Thursdays):  May 10, 24, June 7, 7-9 PM
Group #2 (Thursdays): July 26, August 9, 23, 7-9 PM
…is a program for people who are in a “wrong fit” job or in the job search mode. Your participation in this group will: 1.) Affirm who you are and provide strong language to describe what you uniquely bring to the world and the job market, 2.) Provide directed reflection on your life and work experiences, which will help you to have a better sense of what makes a position a “good fit” for you, and 3.) Expose you to a range of potential careers, based on your strengths, for consideration as you work to “right fit” your career. Participants choose between the StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment or the StandOut assessment, which are provided, to help them on the journey. Or, both may be taken for $15.00. VITA – Volunteer Income Tax Assistance…

Program starts in late January on Wednesdays, 12- 4 PM and continues until the last Wednesday before April 15th.
Computerized programs allow helpers to file your taxes online and get quicker refunds. No reservations needed, first come, first served. If you would like to take advantage of this service you will need to bring: a Photo I.D., Social Security cars, Medicare cards, or other evidence of SS number for all taxpayers and dependents, W-2′s, 1099s, records of home mortgage interest and real estate tax paid, and any paperwork relating to Economic Stimulus Payments you may have received. Also clients should bring a copy of last year’s return. Call the church at 931-0243 if you have questions about what you need to bring.
