Family Life Center

The Family Life Center is a faith-based, non-denominational outreach of the Northminster Presbyterian Church. All community members are welcome. You do not have to be a church member to attend these groups! We are located at the corner of Woodview and Compton Road, one block east off Winton Road, north of the Ronald Reagan (Cross County) Highway. Call 931-5777 for directions and map.

Crohn's Colitis Support Group
meets the third Monday of the month
from 7:00-8:30 P.M

At the April 21 meeting Dr. Alan Safdi will be speaking on the "Latest Research and Treatment for Crohn's and Colitis - including diet and stress" .

New in 2008, this is a group for those who have Crohn's, Colitis, IBD, or have a relative with the disease. Materials provided by Crohn's Colitis Foundation of America.     Understanding and Reducing Depression: an educational class for those who think they may have depression, who feel moderately depressed themselves, their friends and family members who want to understand and support a person with depression.     Job Search Support Group
    For those coping with downsizing, or looking to return to the job market.     Single Parent Support Group
    This group meets on the second Wednesday of the month, at the Family Life Center from 7:00-8:30 P.M. An educational support group to share information and strategies for dealing with the particular issues facing single parents. Whether divorced, widowed or never married, single parents share common concerns and can learn from the experiences of others.     Preparing for Marriage Course
    Any couple preparing to marry can experience a sharing relationship with an already married mentor couple and other couples about to be married. Discussion will center around issues crucial to a successful marriage. Those entering marriage for the first time as well as those who have been married before are welcome.     Lose it for Life!
    There are many variables that affect weight loss, and these variables are as different as we are. This 10-week workshop, based on the book by Steve Arterburn, will help you create and work a personal plan to maintain your weight-management lifestyle. Led by Karen Dirr, Ann Eismeier and Diane Siegel, you'll learn to deal with the issues at the core of your spiritual and emotional life that have kept you from losing weight and keeping it off. More important than the weight, you'll find transformation on the inside! Each participant receives his/her own FREE workbook and journal to keep track of progress.     MOPS - Mothers of Pre-Schoolers
    (This program is offered in the Main Church Building in Founders' Hall.) An educational and support group for mothers with caring activities for their children. (MOPPETS) from infancy to 5 years old, while moms are in the meeting. This year's theme is "The Home Factor: Begin here, go there" First Thursday of every month, 9:15-11:30 A.M. September-May.     Caregivers' Group
    Who is a caregiver? You are a caregiver, if you provide or supervise care that helps a person who is frail, elderly or disabled. It can be both physically and emotionally demanding. One source of support is our educational support group for all caregivers. Meet others who share your experience, learn to care for yourself as well!     Cancer Support Group

    Diabetic Support Group
    This group will cover material through book review, hand-outs and in small group discussion. The experience of group members contributes to the learning process.     Boundaries with Kids
    Based on the book by Henry Cloud and John Townsend. Participants receive a FREE workbook to record their learnings.     Boundaries in Marriage
    Using the book and video series by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend. Instructors are married folks with years of experience. Small group discussion with other couples whose marriages are about the same length as yours. Participant issues are addressed during class and group discussion. All sharing is confidential.     Holistic Health & Wellness
    New in 2008! This five-week group will offer self-care techniques through Tai Chi Healing Touch, and assorted other practices that draw from the wisdom of today and of the ancients. Participants should wear comfortable clothing for gentle movement. This group starts Thursday, April 3 and run thru May 1 from 7:00-8:30 P.M. at the Family Life Center.     Divorce Support Group
    The divorce process leads to many strong feelings, including isolation, anger, depression and confusion. This group will help participants understand what they’re going through, get support from others in similar circumstances and give them tools for readjusting their life.     Fourth Friday Single Mingle
    Come and enjoy an evening of playing game or catching up with old friends or meet some new friends. Bring your own drinks and a snack to share.     Join us for Northminster Singles' "Just for Dessert" Night on Saturday, April 12 from 8:00-11:00 P.M. in Fellowship Commons.
    Bring a dessert to share and enjoy the evening sampling desserts and mingling with other singles. A Coffee Bar will be set up along with other refreshments.

    Stepfamily Couple to Couple Mentoring
    Whether you call it a “stepfamily,” a “blended family,” or a “merging family,” there are common issues we all face. Mentors provide education and personal support to cope with the emotions and tasks of becoming a new, “normal” family, however you define it for yourselves.     VITA - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance
    Computerized programs allow helpers to file your taxes online and get quicker refunds. This program starts up Wednesday, January 30 and is available every Wednesday from 12:00-4:30 P.M. (The last Wednesday will be April 9.) . No reservations needed, first come, first served. Call the church at 931-0243 to find out what you need to bring.

    Sermon Tape Ministry
    Team members will copy the tapes and deliver or mail to your relative who is unable to attend services. CD's are now available of the traditional service.Call the church (931-0243) to order the tapes or CD's. Request More Info.
