Home Groups (Small groups)

FAQ’s

What is a home group?
Home groups are often called small groups. They are typically groups of 10 to 20 people who meet regularly to share about their lives, support each other, study biblical truths, and even serve together. And while they often meet in a home, they may also meet at other locations (Northminster, restaurant, office).
While a Campus group may be described as a neighborhood within the church landscape, a home Group is a cul-de-sac within the church landscape. These groups meet weekly or bi-weekly and are designed to develop deeper friendships as they function more like “extended family”. Groups can choose to be open groups accepting new members or they can be closed groups due to space issues, purpose, etc.

Why join a home group?
A Home Group isn’t just one more thing to add to your already busy schedule. It’s where we connect on a deeper level with other people. Dr. Henry Cloud, Christian Psychologist and author, describes people as God’s Plan A. People are God’s primary plan for growing our faith and living life. We need each other.

What does a home group do?

Every group is a little different, but generally the group will spend time catching up and sharing about their week, delve into a Bible study or a Biblically based book and talk about how it applies in their lives, and pray for each other. Oh, and laugh and share fun food! Many groups may also find a way to serve together.

Upcoming Events/series or classes

Spring Session of Northminster University

“Creation, the Bible, and the Modern World: How Scripture informs our view of reality”.

Starting Sunday, April 15, and going for five weeks through May 13

2 repeat sessions at 10:15am and 11:30 am in Disciples Hall

We are excited to announce that Dean Nicholas will be leading us again this Spring. Dean is currently the principal at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, and has his PHD in Bible and the Ancient Near East.

Dean states that when most people hear the word “creation”, the next word to pop into the mind is “Evolution”. And then the fight is on! But the divisiveness of this “hot button” topic misses the point of what Scripture intended for us to understand about God, ourselves, and the world. We will examine what people in the ancient world were saying about creation and how the Bible strongly critiques and engages those ideas. We will also see how the Bible weaves the theme of creation from the first chapter of the Bible to the very end. We will explore the different pictures and motifs the Bible uses when talking about the Creation. Finally, we will consider what, if anything, in these passages relates to the modern discipline of science.
